Dayton, Ohio: Possibly the most important week in the short history of the Zipp OVCX Cyclocross Tour has started even better than expected. Just days before racing in front of an expected 10,000 spectators, Zipp OVCX Tour Director Mitch Graham announced that Papa John’s Pizza has re-joined the series as presenting sponsor.
The announcement was made as the riders and staff of the Midwest-based series prepare for their second double-header weekend in as many weeks. Just six days after raising $5,000 for disadvantaged kids at the St. Mary’s Child Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Zipp OVCX Tour Presented by Papa John’s will put cyclocross on center stage as the featured attraction of Gearfest, Dayton Ohio’s huge outdoor sports exposition on Saturday, October 1. The following day, the Tour travels across town for one of the most venerable events in Midwest cyclocross, The Buckingham Financial John Bryan Cyclocross Classic on Sunday,October 2.
Two days of racing started off this year's Exergy US Gran Prix of Cyclocross p/b Greenware, as the series returned to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, the site of the Planet Bike Cup. Dry, fast racing kicked off the weekend in style, as Czech National Champion Katerina Nash (LUNA) rode away from a star studded field to pull on the weekend's first leader's jersey. Ryan Trebon (LTS) equaled that feat in the elite men's race, taking his first USGP victory since 2009.
Day two was as different as you could get, weather wise, as pouring rain turned the venue - Sun Prairie's Angell Park Speedway - into a mud pit. Used to these conditions, two-time World Champion Bart Wellens (Telenet-Fidea) sprinted away from the field in the men's race and finished off his American tour in the USGP leader's jersey. Katerina Nash duplicated her result from day one and tightened her early grip on the number one overall spot.

It was with great sadness that Richard's sister lost her 27 year battle with cancer last week.
