A note about disc brake compatibility:
If you intend on using Shimano Centerlock rotors with your Avid mechanical brakes, there are some points you need to know. The brake pads of the Avid BB series brakes are designed with one moving pad - the outer - and one stationary pad - the inner. This takes into account a degree of flex in the rotors - something the Avid rotors are designed to to. Shimano rotors are designed to be used with bilateral pad actuation style brake calipers, and have little to no flexing capability. If you set your Avid calipers up such that the inner pad is very close to the rotor, this should not present a problem, but the system was not designed to operate in this manner. We suggest using Avid HSX Centerlock rotors for your Centerlock disc brake system, or purchasing a 6-Bolt rotor adapter and 6-Bolt rotor if you intend on using Centerlock hubs.
